I’m waiting for the day when Metallica stops releasing material. That is the day that never comes unfortunately….
I used to idolize Metallica, and I still love their music. But I have to admit, Lars crossed a line long ago that I don’t think they ever recovered from (for me).
Rock on George!
First 2 minutes: Three notes, sloppily played. Sounds like St. Anger all over again.
2-4 minutes: Christ, turn the dials down back from 11. Some engineer needs to yank it back. Too hot.
4-5 minutes: Love is a four-letter word. Yes, that is correct. James Hetfield sounds more like Weird Al Yankovich. “This I swear”.
5-6 minutes: Muddy. Engineer must have worked at the Silverdome, because it sounds like Summer Sanitarium all over again.
6-6:30 minutes: Scales != song.
6:30-7:30 minutes: Solo. Kirk Hammet.
7:30-7:56 minutes: Color me unimpressed. I’m smelling disas-tah. This is about as potent as prune juice.
wow, I really wish I could leave feedback on the metallica website. They are just horrible. They don’t even offer an mp3 stream/download. I guess they would be ridiculed otherwise, I loved them as a kid, but there are so many bands that leave them looking like a has-been, most of them being, IMO before they even came out.
If you want new music check out The Groundhogs, Canned Heat, Toad, Fuzzy Duck, etc…..
I think I know the reason why this song isn’t working for me, or the other song “Cyanide”.
Metallica are trying desperately to be Dream Theater (or at least to write long, challenging songs like Dream Theater), but they come across as noodley, weak, disparate pieces rather than tight, heavy, interesting musical journeys. Both songs just sounded clubbed together, with little “we’re musicians, honest” flourishes tossed in for good measure. This was the problem with St. Anger (along with the extremely poor sound engineering), and I don’t see them improving the rest of the album anytime soon.
Ugh.
